I think that is an interesting topic, because I have never even thought that it would be a possibility. It was interesting to read that students who study a science course for a month or longer, on one major topic, rather than the broad and general amounts of topics most students are taught, get better scores in the class as well as testing. I think it is true that this happens, because when you learn about one thing in a deeper area, in the topic, it is better to understand and analyze all the information you are learning, rather than study a bunch of topics in a span of a few weeks. I don't think our school is successful in teaching in this one topic method for a long period of time, because they have to be able to get in as much information and parts of our curriculum into the class with science. In science we go pretty quick through what we learn in a span of maybe two to three weeks the most, and then go into a new branch of information on a topic.
This is interesting especially since the 10th grade just took a practice science regents. I know with Ms. Douveres she takes her time and doesn't rush threw topics. She makes sure everyone understands before she moves on to the next topic. This could be a good investigative feature article, we can have a survey and maybe even a study of some sort.
I thought it was pretty cool; i always thought about that kind of strategy and how we can or don't use it in WJPS. I agree with Melissa, Ms. Douvres is one of those teachers who won't move on until the students understand the material that we're learning and I really appericiate that. We could do feature article on that, it'd show what the students think about that topic :)
