beat reporters "cover breaking news and features in specific geographic and subject areas every day, such as police and fire departments; county and federal courts; and city, county and state governments. They generally come up with their own story ideas, based on knowledge of their beats and constant contact with sources"(p.6 Itule/Anderson) from News Writing and Reporting for Today's Media.
Some beats I'd like us to have in the paper are:
- Student government
- Clubs
- Francis Lewis Sports
- Outside Sports
- Meet the teachers
- Intro to colleges
- Student profiles

I think it is going to be really cool to show these things in the paper, and I especially like the student profiles, and highlighting certain colleges. I think it is a good way to show off certain schools and also present students in a way that is fun and we will learn new things about people as well. If it is a profile on what they like and dislike, it can really grab readers attention.
I think this a good idea because it shows one that we want to know about these topics and also are likes and dislikes. I want people to read this newspaer beacuse it grabs their attention not beacuse they have to. I think this would draw people to read it more becuase it is what they like.
Raymond Arroyo says he wants to write an op ed article about student government. But he didn't know if we would run it, because in it he wants bash the student government. I said as long as he is not just venting, and has backup/evidence, and he signs his name it could be okay, but I would ask you and get back to him.
I think these are good ideas as well, I think its hard to have breaking news when the paper comes out when it does. In such a wide span of time various thing happen but by the time the paper comes out the news is old. Also things come up that I want to write about right before the paper starts laying out and I can't. If I wait till next issue the news is old and uninteresting. But these ideas are good because they are happening all year so its okay if they come out a little after they happened. I think it all depends on the stories we want to cover
