3rd issue reflection

Please read the third issue for homework tonight and think about what we are doing well...

What did we do well? specifically.
What do we need to make more improvements? Be specific...

Overall, what did you think? What articles and pages looked best? Why?

Please start looking for corrections for our first ever corrections box in the 4th issue...

For instance, Omar was given credit for "Kill for your life" when Victor wrote it.

i would have to say there are a few picture bylines. That were misspelled. the front page of the students cuting students was spelled wronge. page 3 of the picture stealing food picture was spelled wronge. And thats all i found out so far!

i think we did well on the articles and there were articles that looked interesting to read. i feel that we still made a few spelling errors but none of them were bad enough to be distracted from the article. for example in one picture on page 3 there was a mispelled word underneath the photo. all in all i thought we did a good job on the newspaper and we can only go up from there

we got more pages out this time and i thought that was really good. we still need to improve on the mistakes that were made and we need to revise our work more and not do it as a last minute thing. but i really thought this newspaper was much better and improved then the one from last trimester.

I thin klthat this issue is a lot better than the last. We keep improving mroe and more every issue. There was minimal white space this time around and thats a big improvemnt. There were a few spelling mistakes here and there. Maybe next time we should have people from different groups looking over other other sections. For example somebody from new should look over a feature page. Because when you keep looking at the same things over and over mistakes begin to disapear.

That's a great idea, Sarah. We should all be checking each other...

This paper did come out nicely, and I liked the layout of the the news, sports and feature sections the most. They filled up the most space on the pages, and the news section got a lot of pictures, that were entertaining to look at. There are still obvious mistakes once you look directly at certain things, such as the top page with the page number, and how they weren't all in the order. Also the blazer cover page, Flushing and New York were in lower case, and should be capital. there are also tiny spelling mistake errors, but what is good this time is that you have to read a good amount of the article until you start finding mistakes. One last thing I think could have been fixed, were some of the sidebars and boxes were a little to dark and it could have been lighter. Anyway, enough negative stuff, I really think the layout is getting better, and pictures made a big difference. I liked a lot of the article topics too(yes I read them) and we just need to really work hard on getting out all errors and making sure the page numbers are set up right, and also have the gradient a little lighter.

I think we did ok this time but we did have some mistakes. I liked how each section layed out their work. I liked that each section tried their best to fill p all the space. Next issue we can fix and go over the pages twice and I hope that we have everything in on time and we don't have to put misspelled words and write the right caption and I am sorry that the caption on Ms.Valtal's picture was wrong. Next time we can double check the information that goes into the newspaper.

I noticed a lot of errors. But I see them in all sections. I don't think anyone section should be blamed. Once again things were rushed to meet deadlines and careless errors were overlooked. I think our class should work on time management. Also more on team effort. Everyone getting involved. If they don't know how to use indesighn they should come up during lunch and ask someone to teach them, because its not fair the editors have to layout everything and then while rushing to finish overlook things.
Anyways I think overall this paper was amazing. It was mostly in 10 font which is like a real paper. It was more professional looking even with the errors. With practice comes perfection and I have faith that we will eventually produce a paper with no spelling errors. I think we should focus on the positives of the paper and how its growing each issue.

I think that we have come along way from the first issue and I think that we have gotten better. One issue I thought that was hard to get through was the way layout is. So chaotic, too many people running around trying to get done. The only when you feel like you’re having a panic attack or your going to go crazy, is to take a minute and breath, get some air or water. Then think that if there is an issue with layout or if someone didn’t contribute to the paper plan out what you should instead of complaining.

But one problem I had personally was if I should be more creative on the layout or should I stick to standards? Although there were a couple spelling errors and misleading information, I don’t think it was noticeable, except for the one Ms. Pepe pointed out.

Ha-ha funny I also agree with Sarah. It’ll be good to have other eyes other then mine and my section team looking at it. Yes a couple of sidebars were dark but I needed to get use to the sidebars because I haven’t touch on them before this issue came out.I'm sorry it will never happen again!

I feel a little shaky on deadlines and the time that goes by as I try to finish an article. If I meet the deadlines, I would feel like I rushed my articles and it wouldn’t be the way I wanted them to be and it wouldn't be carefully thought about. I want to be proud of my work and my writings I don’t want them to be rushed.

I think that the issues get better and better is just the simple fact that not everyone proof reads there work before putting it on in design. We can fix this issue we just have to inforce the editing. I did find some nice articles, and the paper sure is looking more smother. Hard work will give us a better 4th issue mayb with out mistakes.

Definitely more improvement :D
the pages were looking better and more pages made the newspaper look like a real newspaper! :D just minor mistakes are still present througout the paper but that's really about it. we have to time out how we are going to layout the paper because that's where things start to go wrong.

I think the cover was good i didnt see any mistakes which was great.

On page 2 i think chris caraballo's headline and jamie's article was way to close, the should have done text wrap around the picture so the 3rd colum can get pushed up. other then that i think it was good =).

On page 6 their was no credit on who took the picture.

On page 9 the top line was over the investigative word and the numner was on the wrong side. Everything else was good.

Same issue on 10&11 page numbers here on the wrong side and the top bar went across.. Great article to livianette =)...

On page 12 & 13 the numbers are on the wrong place,, on page 13 the headline was too up it should have been pulled down.. not sure where the credit for the picture went but point is its not their..

Page 14 and 15 are numbered wrong spots who ever did that page didnt put my name in the by line for my article..

Page 15 again number is in wrong place and i gave omar credit for victors article.. sorry.. and once again on page 16 the numbers where in the wrong place..

Page 17 the article on the bottom the colums arent even..

page 18 number is in wrong place..

Im not trying to be annoying and pointing out a lot of mistakes but i just wanted to point out the obvious even my page had some mistakes but over all 24 pages says enough i mean i think its obvious that we worked hard and wwe do have the ability to work even harder.. their were many interesting storys and most of the headlines were cachy.. it is our best paper yet and theirs going to be many better i am proud of everyone that put some type of effort into it. Over all it was good and the mistakes are fixable =) except for my article with the wrong name lol.. sorry again.and even though we rushed to meet deadlines i think it was pretty good for last minute now if it werent rushing then i think our mistakes would have been more carefull but its okay becuase we did come a long way. Especially layout and indesign i think the master pages help a lot.

a few of the bi lines were missspelled, and some pictures had no bi lines. there were some missplled words but we still need to improve on the mistakes that were made. and each student needs to revise there work and wait till the last min. i believe this paper was more improved then the last one. and i hope that the next one is better (:
