BATON ROUGE, La - The fearsome heat of a South Louisiana summer unmediated by air-conditioning , reduces the strong to a primal struggle and sends the weak to the hospital.
I Chose this lead because it made me think about the topic and I wanted to read more in order to understand what it was really talking about.

I chose this lead because it caught my attention. I wanted to knoe what happened to this person and what the point was. It is a present participle lead. The language they use in this lead is scientific.

The Georgia State School superintendent, Kathy Cox, won $1million on the Fox game show "Are you Smarter then a 5th Grader?" and said Monday that "the primary beneficiary of the money" would be two state schools for the deaf and one for the blind.
I chose this lead because i did see the show but wasn't sure what she was doing with it.
YESTERDAY'S Gal lup poll had John McCain ahead of Barack Obama by an astonishing 10 points among likely voters. A Washington Post poll had that lead at only two points, but clearly showed a McCain surge - especially among women. This wasn't what Democrats were expecting when they left Denver - yet they have nobody to blame but themselves.
i choose this leas because it is a very important topic that is going on in the world and it grabed my attention and made me want to read more.

Federal regulators took a first step yesterday toward allowing a radioactive waste dump in Nevada, agreeing to formally review the governments license application for the dump.
I chose this lead because it interested me, its extremely shocking to find that regulators would even think about creating a radioactive dump. This lead is a past participle lead. It is effective because it grabs the readers attention while being short and "to the point". The language is not difficult, their are no big words, or difficult jargon.

This is an noun lead. I think this is effective because it gives an important fact right in the beginning of the story and it makes the reader want to read more.

This November, millions of New Yorkers will cast their votes in a history-making, ceiling-shattering presidential election, where the Republican and Democratic nominees are locked in a close race and the stakes are magnified by the sinking economy and an unpopular foreign war.
I chose this lead, because I really like the way this author used strong phrases like ceiling shattering. This lead is a present particulate lead, because he says This November. I also liked how the whole sentence flowed, even though it was long, it had commas. He also gave the reader some facts like how our economy is down and we are in a war. It made me think not only about the election , but about the other events going on in the world.

Reflect: I chose this lead because I believed that out of all the leads that i have done, this was the most clearest & simplest. This lead was short and right to the point. Anyone can understand what the writer is trying to explain and explain it in their own words. Also this lead, if a on-the-go person was to read this, it wouldnt be neccesary to read the entire article, because the main facts were pointed out in those little words. [:

I chose this article because leaves me with questions to know why is it “being billed” and what is “the worlds fastest motor sport”. This article is effective because it grabbed my attention and I want to know what it is all about. This article is a verb lead because it is about being billed and being mostly about taking actions.

I'm not sure which kind of lead this is (Prepositional phrase maybe?) but it interested me because the first part of the sentence automatically makes you think of recreational drug use whule the article talks about a component of the plant that has promise as an antibiotic.
