Good morning or afternoon to all of you. This blog will serve as a classroom outside the classroom, as support and forum for furthering classroom discussions. I will often assign homework to post to the blog.
Please don't hesitate to ask your classwide questions here... anything personal should be sent to me via email. This way the personal matter can be handled privately.
Your first official assignment is: to introduce yourselves to each other... Who are you? Are you new to WJPS? If yes, where were you before? What do you hope to gain from your experience in this class? What are your expectations? How do you like to learn?
I will go first: I'm Ms. Sackstein. This is my second year teaching at WJPS. I teach ELA and journalism classes. This is my 7th year teaching ELA. I started my career at Far Rockaway High School for 3 years, moved to Locust Valley High School on Long Island for 2 years (where I advised the school newspaper) and then I landed here. I am extremely happy and excited to be here and to share my knowledge with you and for each of you to share yours with me and each other.
Expectations, as you will learn quickly, I'm sure, are a big part of my class. I expect everyone to try their best and never settle for something that isn't as such. The work we produce will be published in a school paper so we want people to really be wowed by the work we do. I know that each of you is capable of keeping up with the work and trying your best. You can expect me to be available for help via conferences or email as much as possible.I'm an auditory/visual learner, but I like to keep things interesting. I will do my best to make sure everyone's learning preferences are honored as much as possible. I'm looking forward to a good year.

I'm Erin O'Driscoll i have been attending wjps for 2 years. I am happy too be here and start to learn more about newspaper and otherthings. I am happy to meet all of you this year and if anybody needs help i will help you if i can.
I'm Livianette(: I love to write & hopefully by the end of my highschool career i can make a living doing what i love to do and doing it well(: Since this is an english class, its definately going to be the class that i will be pushing myself more than ever, and master skills that will come in handy in life.
Hi i'm natalie slavova and have been a wjps student for two years now. i really like the school and would never think of living.i look forward to this class because i would enjoy learning about newspaper ,and other types of writing. I am a very sweet person and if anyone needs help they all know they can come to me if i can help i will try my best.
I'm Bridgette Cerritos and am going into my Second year at WJPS. Writing is my favorite pastime, and I hope to become an author and/or editor some day.
I really would like to help advance the school newspaper as a production as there is yet so much room for improvement.

Hi, i'm Georgina P. i have been attending wjps since February. I use to go to Francis Lewis High school in fresh medows but transphered. So far i have been quite satisfied with WJPS. Something i would like for you to know about me is if i like a topic i can write alot. Bad part about that is sometimes i just write too much. I believe that i will do well with the newspaper work. I am willing to help anyone if i am able to also. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year in your class.

Hey, I'm Anastasia P and this is my second year here at WJPS. I really do like the school, because it has such a nice environment. I had fun doing journalism last year, but editing is a first priority for me, and my leads. I think the newspaper is really interesting to read because you learn more vocabulary and the news :) I do like creative writing though. I always write at home, so I think I will like this class.
My name is Melissa, I was attending WJPS last year for 9th grade. I hope to gain a few things from my experience in this class. Such experiences include: having a better understanding of journalism, knowing how to write an exceptional newspaper article that will attract many audiences, further my writing education, and play a big part in the newspaper. I love to write and I think I am a great writer. I know how to edit and re-work pieces so they make sense, the only thing I have trouble with in writing is grammar and spelling. I hope to be a part tine writer when I am older. I am not really fond of journalism because I have trouble making it interesting as well as factual and "wright to the point". I hope to gain this skill this year.

I'm Eirene Skocos and I have been attending WJPS for 2 years. I love the celebrity magazines like people and star and maybe one day work for them. Writing news articles now might help me for when i get older.

I'm Shazia Rahaman and I've attended WJPS for 2 years. I am 15 years old and my birthday is on April 16, 2008. My interests are reading and well more reading heh-heh. To me this school is like an adventure because I have no clue what to expect in the future. Over all i hope i can benifit very well in the school year. Hi, my name is Sarah Bianchi and this is my second year at WJPS. I love too write but newspaper has always been a struggle for me so I hope this class will help me learn and make my new writing stronger. I am a hard working student, I do all my work.
